About Us
Alva Playgroup is run by a voluntary committee
made up of parents & carers of children who are currently registered with
us. The normal duration of a committee member is one year. The
committee are very active and usually meet once every month/six weeks.
We are registered to take 32 chldren in both the morning and
afternoon sessions. We fill the morning session before we open the
afternoon session.
Staffing - we employ an administrator to help with the
group's admin. The playroom is staffed by a co-ordinator and three
playleaders, all of whom are Nursery Nurses.
We are situated within a purpose built room which is attached to
Alva Primary School. Our room offers a large playing area for our
children with half being carpeted and the other half washable flooring.
Toilets are situated within the room to allow maximum
independance for our children.
There is also a fully equiped kitchen allowing hot and cold
snacks to be prepared and served to the children.
The playgroup has an excellent outdoor area providing for the
children physical development and environmental awareness.
Morning session times:- 9.20am - 11.50am
Afternoon session times:- 12.20pm - 2.50pm
All staff work closely with parents & carers to provide a
quality service to meet the needs of all aspects of the child's development
in accordance with National Guidelines.
Parents and younger siblings are made welcome in our playroom.
We operate a rota system where all parents/carers are encouraged to
help within playroom. You can decide when and how often you come in to
help. Working in the playroom gives insight into how your child is doing
- Who do they mix with? What is their favourite part of being at playgroup?
etc.
We offer a healthy snack each session as well as a drink. There
is a small charge for this, £2.00 per week. In addition to the snack
there is always fresh fruit available.
In this day and age the security of our children is paramount.
With this in mind Alva Playgroup operates a sign in/sign out policy.
On the day your child starts playgroup we ask you to give us a list of
those adults who are authorised to collect your child. If anyone who is
not on this list tries to collect your child they will not be allowed to do
so and we would immediately contact the primary carer. Parents can phone into
the playroom if they wish to add a name at short notice. Children cannot be collected
by anyone under the age of 16yrs.
We benefit from having a secure room where no-one is allowed
into it without us opening the door to them.
The playgroup follows the Scottish Executive's Curriculum
Framework and Child at the Centre for children aged 3yrs - 5yrs where all
aspects of child development are nurtured and include emotional, personal and
social development, communication and language, knowledge and understanding
of the world, expressive and aesthetic development and physical development
and movement.
Children with additional needs are included in the playgroup
community with access to specialist support from associated agencies
including Psychological Services, Social Services, speech & language
therapy, physiotherapy, health visitors, specialised teachers for hearing and
visually impaired.
The playgroup operates a lending libary and encourages
parents/carers to become involved in this.
Playgroup polo shirts, sweatshirts and fleece jackets are available to buy
from the playroom at any time. Cost Polo shirt £6.50, Sweatshirt £8.00
and Fleece Jackets £12.00.
